Questions and Answers

Do I need a prescription?

  • Most clients will not need a medical prescription for physical therapy services. Direct Access is a California State Law that enables a physical therapist to see a new patient directly without a physician’s prescription for twelve visits. However, you may need a prescription to determine medical necessity for services if you plan to file for insurance reimbursement.
  • A prescription is not needed for performance and nutritional consultations, or for conditioning sessions.

What are the fees?

  • Fees are to be paid at the time of service, unless previous arrangements have been made.
  • Fees are payable by cash, checks made out to Total Body Development, or VISA/MasterCard. Health spending account cards are also accepted with a VISA emblem on the card. Credit card payments are subject to an additional processing fee.
  • All initial sessions are $175, and 1-hour follow-up sessions are $140 per hour. Ask about our payment discount.
  • Ongoing regular time slot reservations or delayed payment arrangements may require additional fees.
  • Written reports requested to be written outside of session times cost $100 per page.
  • File copying and/or mailing is $25 per request. Multiple requests are additive in fees.
  • Outside supplies ordered by Total Body Development may require a mark-up fee.

Do you take insurance?

  • Total Body Development does not file for insurance; payments are required at the time of service. You must submit your own reimbursement requests to your insurer(s).
  • You may request that we provide you with a coded receipt, or "superbill," showing appropriate diagnosis and procedural codes along with other information necessary for reimbursement from your insurer. Always check with your insurer for proper procedure in filing for reimbursement.
  • Total Body Development is no longer listed as a Blue Shield provider.

How long are the sessions?

  • There is no waiting room so please knock at your scheduled time.

What happens if I make repeated cancellations?

  • Repeated cancellations may indicate a need to discharge care from this service.

Do you make home visits?

  • In rare instances, home visits can be arranged but must be billed a double fee for loss of practice time.

What do I wear to an initial session?

  • You should wear underwear and be ready to be examined in your underwear for an effective biomechanical evaluation. There is a private changing/restroom.

What do I wear for follow-up sessions?

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing in which you can exercise. Shoes or slippers are not necessary.

How are you different than a gym trainer?
